Why Seek PTSD Counseling At All?

Struggling with anxiety, depression, behavioral and attention issues, sleep issues, difficulty regulating moods, and relational issues is HARD.

After a difficult experience, many people find themselves feeling…

  • Stuck
  • Emotionally all over the place
  • Ashamed of themselves or their past
  • Unlovable
  • Destined for failure

I most enjoy helping clients look inward, without judgment, to know themselves better. I help you build awareness and learn to believe in a future that is different (and wildly better) than the past. We also will work to empower you with mindful self-compassion. When you learn to be kind to yourself, you can unlearn bad habits and heal old wounds.

No one should have to settle for a “less than” life.

Who I Help

Ready For Connection

You are tired of feeling empty and struggling in your relationships. You have a big desire to connect more deeply with yourself and others. We are a good fit.

I love working with clients who have developed a habit of dissociating (checking out) from their internal feelings and sensations. This happens all the time in our Western culture. When we are checked out, we tend to misjudge threat, be less tender to ourselves and others, and have limiting self-beliefs. I love to work with clients who are willing to move their focus from external events and thoughts to their internal present experience.

Adults

Let’s be honest. Adulting is challenging a LOT of the time. Whether you are new to this adult-thing or have been around the block, being an adult does not automatically mean you have it all together. I believe in persistent growth and development. We can always learn a new way to do something better or gain a new perspective that brings us closer to our ideal life.

My passion is working with adults who are ready to unhook from the past so they can enjoy the present fully with open hearts and the promise of a better future.

Let’s work together to help you integrate, build awareness, and see yourself differently. As you change how you feel about yourself, you will act differently and create a future worth living.

Groups

For many of us, the fall out from a difficult childhood or a sexual trauma is seen most in our relationships. Something is holding you back. Or maybe you desperately want connection, but find yourself shutting down when you get too close.

I believe in the power of relationships. I help clients identify the barriers that sometimes get in the way of living life more fully. My approach stems from Somatic Experiencing® techniques (paying attention to what’s happening in the body), Attachment Theory (the impact of early family relationships) and the Psychology of Mindful Self-Compassion.

Groups offer practice opportunities to develop awareness of the present moment, without judgement, as clients explore how to bring mindfulness and compassion into everyday life. The goal here is to integrate the thinking and feeling parts of the brain in order to build resilience (grit), reduce stress and enrich relationships.

Warmth and Humor

Yes. Therapy can be hard work. It can be difficult to face up to a history of abuse or the pain of a heartbreak.

But therapy can also be full of joy and playfulness. In this way, counseling is like life. The hard parts are easier to bear when you feel supported and accepted. My sessions are full of fun, creativity, and connection. I love seeing my clients grow and heal. I feel honored to be a part of your healing journey.

How I Help

Julie Nachman and dog

Sexual assault counseling doesn’t have to take forever

especially when you choose a specialist. I want to be there for you, help you look inward, and like what you see.

  • Learn how to stop judging yourself
  • Manage your emotional ups and downs
  • Build your courage and strength
  • Leave the past behind

One of the techniques I use is called Somatic Experiencing®, which uses attention to the body to help you break free of the past and heal. We can do Somatic Experiencing® online and in-person.

Many of my clients have been trying for years to let go of something from the past. They’ve thought about it and maybe even talked about it, but they continue to struggle with the same old reactions. Somatic experiencing goes deeper than that. It uses the equilibrium of your body to help you heal. So you won’t just know in your head that you’re safe now; you’ll feel it.

I also am trained in Interpersonal Neuroscience, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Hakomi Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy, HRV Biofeedback, Attachment theory, and Cognitive Behavioral techniques. I love to build upon my ever-expanding knowledge base of training approaches and technology to treat anxiety, depression, behavioral and attention issues, sleep issues, difficulty regulating moods, and relational issues.

Together, we will help you trust yourself and feel stronger than ever.
