Parents, you want your kids to be happy and well-adjusted.

Kids are resilient. But it’s normal to wonder if your kid will ever feel normal again, especially after sexual abuse.

At Hope For The Journey, we get to see just how strong kids can be, and IT IS INSPIRING.

With the right counseling tools, our goal is always for our clients to heal completely. By doing so, they can have bright futures and find their love of life again.

When your childhood hasn’t been easy, adding anything else to the mix can cause Big Feelings to erupt. It’s like you’re now dealing with everything from today AND all the unresolved things from the past. That’s why the feelings are so big. They are all mixed up and can be difficult to break apart.

COVID-19, the unrest of our current political and racial climate, and the normal ups and downs of life can prove to be way too much for our kids. Especially if they already had difficult circumstances or have experienced abuse.

The bad memories make everything feel bad and ruin how they feel about themselves. School and friends no longer make sense. You feel different, out of control, helpless, and stuck.

What's The Investment?

Growing up is hard enough on its own. Add in something like abuse or trauma, and things can start to feel overwhelming fast.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,

Rates of depression and anxiety in kids/teens have risen over time

  • “Ever having been diagnosed with either anxiety or depression” among children aged 6–17 years increased from 5.4% in 2003 to 8% in 2007 and to 8.4% in 2011–2012. 1
  • “Ever having been diagnosed with anxiety” increased from 5.5% in 2007 to 6.4% in 2011–2012.1
  • “Ever having been diagnosed with depression” did not change between 2007 (4.7%) and 2011-2012 (4.9%).1

Chances of mental disorders increase with age

Diagnoses of depression and anxiety are more common with increased age.3

Parents struggle to know how to help, and Google confuses and overwhelms them. It can feel like your family is falling apart, and there is no way out.

Luckily, there’s help. Good anxiety therapy and depression treatment are available.

Our PTSD counselors at Hope For The Journey know how to relate to kids and preteens. How do we help?

  • Earn trust
  • Build on what works
  • Heal what hurts
  • Celebrate the “new” you

State-of-the-art techniques such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and SE (Somatic Experiencing) help turbo fire the healing process. We also focus on supporting the whole family so that parents get the support they need, too.
